So the plan was to paddle from Cove Bay to Stonehaven, a mere 19km. This was to allow members to see a new bit of coast, but also to reduce the gaps of places paddled. However, the weather was not as nice as forecast and the decision was taken to paddle North up to Nigg Bay and to let the wind push us back is started to die off.
It was nice to see a few ‘new’ faces back on the water and for them to get a gentle re-introduction to paddling. Nice gentle two / three star conditions. One of the highlights of the evening was being advised that we should not have entered Nigg Bay to paddle by a patrol boat.
The area is being redeveloped as part of the South Harbour project. and we had been paddling in and out of here over the last few months with no issues / warnings / submissions/ falls, etc. The area in an around the bay has been zoned for restricted access and as such we will not be able to enter it during the construction phase, and likely access after that will be limited.
A great trip on the way back working our way down the coast with the fins of dolphins seen about forty metres from us, they were on a mission and did not stop to say hello.
